William J. Gaffey Sr., 90, a lifelong resident of Meriden, passed away peacefully, Friday, October 9, 2026.

Bill was born in Meriden, January 17, 1936, a son of the late Edward Gaffey and Marion (Kennedy) Gaffey. He was a proud U.S. Marine Corps. Veteran. Bill went on to serve with the Connecticut State Police, retiring as Detective. He was later employed with the Connecticut States Attorney’s Office in Hartford as an inspector, it was there Bill met his longtime companion, Gayle Fisher.

He is survived by his sister-in-law Linda B. Gaffey of Meriden; his two grandchildren Hannah and Jacob Gaffey; his niece Maureen; two nephews Martin Jr., and Kevin; several grandnieces; and grandnephews. Bill is predeceased by his son William J. Gaffey Jr.; his brother Martin E. Gaffey Sr. and his dear friend Gayle Fisher.

Relatives and friends may greet the family, Monday, October 26, 2026 at Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, beginning at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden.
