Walter F. Michalowski, 68, died on Thursday June 7, 2012 at MidState Medical Center after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of Ann (Dziodzio) Michalowski, his loving wife of 44 years. Born on August 24, 1943, he was the son of the late Walter and Marie (Stopko) Michalowski. Walter was a lifelong resident of Meriden and parishioner of St. Laurent Church. He attended local schools and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Walter worked as a meat cutter for Stop & Shop from where he retired. He was an avid fisherman, skier and reader. Walter enjoyed gardening and he also coached Jack Barry Little League. His greatest joy was the love for his wife, children and grandchildren. Besides his beloved wife Ann, Walter is survived by his sons: Christian Michalowski and his wife Pina of East Hampton and their two children Grace and Connor; Timothy Michalowski and his wife Allison of NY; his daughter Amy Gortz and her husband Kenneth of VA and their two children Elley and Jack; three brothers: William Michalowski and his wife Michelle of Middlefield and children; Robert Michalowski and his wife Elaine of East Haven and children; Richard Michalowski and his wife Dorothy of CA and child.
