Meriden

Obituary

On the 24th of August 2020, Victor Ioanid Moraru, of Meriden, passed away at the age of 20.

Born into a loving family, Victor had an inquisitive and profoundly compassionate mind. At Israel Putman Elementary School he was one of those exquisite pupils who loved reading. He attended George Washington Middle School and graduated from Francis T Maloney High School, making wonderful, steadfast friendships that last to this day. At the date of his death, he was an aspiring junior at UConn, where his love for nature and all living things made him dream of a career in marine studies.

While built like a thinker, Victor will also be remembered for his good humor, his love for games, jokes, and good food. His spirit was able to delight in Bach as much as in Rap, to appreciate Romanian, traditional American, Italian, and Latino cuisine, and to produce subtle irony with as much gusto as a coarse boys' crack. His sensibility made him equally appreciate Dante and amusing every-day stories. For years, while in school, he enjoyed history, his interests stretching from the USA into the Antiquity, the Medieval history of Europe, and Far Asia.

As it happens so often in this country, Victor's personality drew roots from two different cultures: the Romanian one, inheritedfrom his parents and his native one, American. First and foremost, though, Victor loved his hometown, Meriden. He immersed into its diverse heritage, towards which he bore a constant investment.

Victor was a free spirit, yet a complex and searching soul whose sensibility has never ceased scrutinizing the meandering ways of faith and the Divine.  All who knew him enjoyed his enthusiasm for reasoning and getting at the roots of every issue. A kind and affectionate heart, he relentlessly cared for his friends whom he helped and defended to no limit. Victor's flaringly short presence in this universe will always be lovingly remembered by his mother, Ioana Barac, his father, Ion Moraru, his sister, Mia Moraru, his grandmother, Amalia Jeleascov, his extended familyin Bucharest and Medias, Romania and their friends across the world.

Victor's family will receive relatives and friends, Thursday, August 27, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St. Meriden. (masks and social distancing will be required).
