Obituary

Sophie V. (Lyszaj) Ostasiewski, 89, passed away gently on Thursday September 21, 2017 at Masonicare Hospice after a short illness.

Sophie was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary (Kruell) Lyszaj.  She was born in a small coal mining town in Shamokin, PA where she met her husband Albin Ostasiewski. Not long after being married Sophie and Albin decided to relocate to Connecticut to find employment. They settled in Meriden where they resided for their lifetime. Sophie always worked to help her family in various positions. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church where she cooked for 12 years, providing delicious meals for the priests. Sophie then worked at the Napier Company from where she retired. She was very active socially. Sophie was a member of a bowling league, the St. Stanislaus Sunshine Club, and the Meriden Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed exploring the world, traveling to Europe, Mexico and most of the United States. Her favorite memories were from her journey to the Holy Land.

Sophie's great joy in life was helping to care for her two great grandsons, Kyle and Kameron. Sophie loved spending time with them and watching them grow into fine, caring young men. After the death of Albin in 1975, she met Walter Bieluczyk at Church. They had a wonderful friendship and companionship and shared many happy times together until Walter's death in 2009

Sophie is survived by her daughter Kathy Cameron and her husband Tom of Middletown, their children Scott Cameron of Middletown, Amy Cameron Clark and her husband Doug, and their two boys, Sophie's great grandsons Thomas and Ryan all of Wethersfield; her granddaughter Melissa Hulford Hartenstein and her two boys Kyle and Kameron Hartenstein. Besides her husband Albin, she was sadly predeceased by her youngest daughter Mary Adele Hulford on May 30, 2017. She came from a large family of six children and was predeceased by her sisters: Verna, Adele and Helen and two brothers Maurice and Larry.

Sophie was blessed for the people who tenderly cared for her. The family graciously thanks Jessica Breen, P.A., Alex Damon, her companions, Tiffany and Ashleigh, all her caring neighbors: Chris Damon, Fatima and James Marut and Jeff and Ricky Newland and their family. They also wish to thank the staff at Pavilion C and E at MidState Medical Center and Masonicare Hospice who were so very kind to their mother. A very special thanks to Pat who brought Sophie communion every month. Sophie loved "her" Jesus and her Church.

Family and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday September 28th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Everyone is asked to go directly to Church.
