Shirley (Heath) Potter, 89 of Clinton (formerly of Meriden) passed away on Saturday May 24, 2014 at Branford Hospice. She was the wife of the late Francis J. Potter, her loving husband of 62 years. Born in Meriden on August 19, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Elizabeth (Seddon) Heath. She was a very active and loved member of Meriden High School Class of 1942. After attending Laurel Business College, Shirley went to work at the phone company where she taught classes for those learning the business. On June 8, 1946 Shirley married Francis J. Potter, they moved to South Meriden where they raised their two children and became an integral and involved part of the community. She was a longtime, active member of the South Meriden United Trinity Methodist Church. Shirley held the position of minister's secretary to Pastor Stuart Baker for many years. She chaired many church bazaars, using her artistic talents to create beautiful Christmas decorations. After raising her family, Shirley went to work at the Meriden Wallingford Hospital as an insurance supervisor where she earned the respect and love of her fellow workers. Upon retirement Shirley and Francis relocated to their summer home in Clinton. She was an avid gardener, swimmer, walker and boater. Many happy days were spent on their mo-peds touring the back roads of the shoreline. Shirley will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and kindness toward everyone. She is survived by her daughter Cathleen A. Potter of Clinton; son James F. Potter of Branford; a niece Marilyn Fursman of CA and several cousins. Mrs. Potter was predeceased by her brother and his wife Philip and Maria Heath.
