Obituary

Salvatore J. Fiore, 99, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Sunday April 28, 2013 at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of Filomena (Masa) Fiora, his loving wife of 64 years. Born on November 18, 1913 he was the son of the late Joseph and Aurelia (Gargiulo) Fiore. Sal was a lifelong resident of Meriden and parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII from 1942 until 1946 in Central Europe. Sal was employed by Cuno Engineering of Meriden for 20 years thereafter the State of Connecticut for 10 years. He enjoyed gardening and walking. Sal also had a great appreciation for all types of food, having grown up during the Depression, it was important to him that he share with family and friends. He was comfortable speaking with Senators or the homeless and would help anyone in need. Sal will always be remembered for his good nature, his love of God, his care for the environment and humanity. Most important to Sal, was the love he had for his entire family whom he cherished dearly. He is survived by his daughter Aurelia (Fiore) Maxwell and her husband Gary of Manchester; his son Francis Fiore and his wife Debbie of Meriden; a sister Jenny Newsome; his special nieces: Ethel Orcutt and Georgine Curcio; he was the proud and loving grandfather of Christopher, Anthony and Michael Fiore, David Maxwell and his wife Hillary and Kathleen (Maxwell) Orfitelli and her husband Jim; two great grandchildren: Bradley and Vivian and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers Leo, Faust, Joseph, James and a sister Rose. The family wishes to thank the staff at Apple Rehab Coccomo for the wonderful care given to Salvatore while he made his home there.
