Obituary

Salvatore (Sonny) A. Barbuto, 83, died on Friday March 17, 2017 at his home with his beloved wife by his side. He was the husband of June (Siniscalco) Barbuto his loving wife and best friend of 31 years.

Born on July 31, 1933, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Elizabeth (Macri) Barbuto. A lifelong resident of Meriden, Sal attended local schools and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Sal worked for New Departure from where he retired. Upon retirement he became a funeral associate of the Smith-Ruzzo and Stempien Funeral Home for over 35 years. Sal was a member of the Meriden Elks, VFW and American Legion Post #45.

Besides his wife June, Sal is survived by his sons: Anthony (Tony) Barbuto, Michael Barbuto both of New Britain, David Steele of Middletown; his daughter Cathy Buonanni of Meriden; three sisters: Dolores DiGiovanni, MaryAnn Guiel, Theresa Gagne; six cherished grandchildren: Jessica, Adam, David, Jackie, Eric and Kevin, his great granddaughter Kaylee; special nephew Patrick and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Hartford Healthcare Hospice at Home, especially Allison, for the kind, compassionate and dignified care given to Salvatore.

His Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday March 21st at 10:00 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial with military honors will follow in the State Veterans' Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday March 20th from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Stempien Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Homes, 450 Broad St., Meriden.
