Ruth (Markowski) Couture, 70, of Acton, MA, formerly of Medfield, MA and Meriden, died peacefully Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Concord Health Care Center, Concord, MA. She was the beloved wife for 47 years of Paul A. Couture. Ruth was born November 27, 1942 in Meriden, daughter of the late Joseph Markowski and Regina (Yaroshefski) Markowski. She was a graduate of Platt High School, Class of 1960, University of Connecticut, Class of 1964, and earned her Masters Degree in Education from University of Hartford, Class of 1968. Mrs. Couture taught briefly in the Southington School System in the late 1960's before choosing to stay at home to raise a family. Ruth resided in Medfield and Acton, MA since 1979. She was a life-long UConn Huskies fan. For many years, Ruth was a substitute teacher for surrounding towns and then a nanny for a young family. In later years, she especially enjoyed working in the children's room of the Medfield Public Library. In addition to her husband, Ruth was a devoted mother to her daughter, Michelle Couture O'Day and her husband, Brendan, of Arlington, MA, and her son, Jeffrey P. Couture of San Francisco, CA. She is predeceased by her brothers Robert and John Markowski, and her brother-in-law, Norman J. Couture. Ruth was an adoring grandmother to Aidan Paul O'Day, Kieran Francis O'Day, Shea Regina O'Day and Devin Alice O'Day, all of Arlington, MA. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law Victor Couture and his wife Jane, Richard Couture and his wife Sarah, Roger Couture and his wife Dee Jay, all of Meriden, Marcel Couture and his wife Marsha of Killingworth, and her sister-in-law, Jane and her husband Gunther Ohler of Durham, along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Ruth had a close relationship with her sisterly cousins, Dorothy Drechsler, Louise Toth, and Betty Poulos, and their husbands, who supported her during her illness.
