Rose M. Slisz, 96, beloved wife of the late Edward Slisz passed into eternal life on Monday August 27, 2012 at Meriden Center. Born February 22, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Ignatius and Helena (Bukowski) Mik. A lifelong resident of Meriden, Rose was a graduate of St. Stanislaus School and Meriden High School, Class of 1934. She took a correspondence course at LaSalle University of Chicago and received a certificate of completion of the program on May 7, 1936. Rose worked for CL&P Co. for eleven years. Following that, Rose was the lead teller at Colonial Bank from where she retired in 1978. Upon her retirement she volunteered at several community organizations and was a loving devoted caregiver to her husband Edward who had Parkinson's disease. Rose was a lifelong communicant of St. Stanislaus Church. In her younger years she was President of Children of Mary Sodality and a member of the Holy Rosary Society. Rose was a member of the church bowling league, the first Girl Scout Leader at St. Stanislaus Parish and played basketball on the St. Stanislaus League Team and the championship Meriden High School girls' basketball team, where she was known to her teammates as "Flash." She is listed in the Archives of the Basketball Hall of Fame. During her high school years Rose was a secretary for the late Msgr. L. Ceppa. She was a life member of the PLAV and past president of the Ladies' Auxiliary Chapter 189; she served as secretary of the National Association of Federal Retired Employees Chapter 414, the co-founder of the Meriden Chapter of Parkinson's Group, a member of the Sunshine Club of St. Stanislaus, Friends of the Library and the Silver City Chapter of the Red Hat Society. She was an avid Red Sox fan. Rose is survived by her three sons: Ronald M. Slisz and his wife Judith of Cheshire, Edwin P. Slisz of Meriden with whom she made her home for several years, and Raymond L. Slisz and his wife Barbara of Rochester, MN; her two daughters Sr. M. Lisette, Daughters of Mary of the Immaculate Conception, New Britain and Roberta M. McLaughlin and her husband Peter of Meriden with whom she lived from 2003 until 2010; a sister Mary Maciora of Pittsfield, MA, and a sister-in-law Helen Mik of CA; eight grandchildren: Rebecca Slisz and her husband Steven of St. Paul, MN, Joanna Slisz of Boston, MA, Sarah Amenta and her husband Joseph of Vernon, Theresa McLaughlin and her husband Jason LeClaire of Meriden, Rose Mary McLaughlin of Meriden; Luke A. Slisz, twins Anne M. Slisz and Kate E. Slisz all of Rochester, MN, as well as her two great grandchildren Leah Camille Amenta and Jordan Eli Blank and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four sisters: Theresa (Pat) Dembiczak, Margaret Massaro, Katherine Astramowicz, and Czeslawa Mik; and three brothers: John Sr., Felix, and Joseph Mik. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff of the Meriden Center for their comfort, support, and wonderful care to Rose during her stay there.
