Obituary

Pierre Blanchet, 72, of Newington, previously of Meriden, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2022, with his loving wife Judi at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Pierre was born on April 14, 1949, to Jean Blanchet and Rose Roy in Victoriaville, Quebec. After graduating from East Hartford High School in 1967, he went on to study Engineering at The University of New Haven.

After graduation, in 1979, he met Judi Blanchette in Northern Maine. They moved to CT, married in 1980, resided in Meriden and went on to raise two children, Jamie and Kerri. They became the best of friends and could be seen on the white sands of Aruba yearly for over the past 20 years.

One of the first jobs in his Engineering career was at Cahn Engineering and then later at DeCarlo and Doll Inc. where Pierre felt he learned and gained the experience he needed to begin his career. He started an engineering business called Blanchet and Associates and went on to retire from the City of Meriden as City Engineer after 20 years of being a professional engineer and land surveyor. After retiring, he became an adjunct professor at Central Connecticut State University where he taught his trade to the next generation and loved to tell stories about the myriad of students he had.

Pierre was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family, and give them the life he felt they deserved. He was passionate about his Harley and could be found cruising around Meriden, easily being mistaken for Santa on a motorcycle. He served his community and volunteered his time to organizations such as The Sunshine Kids, a non-profit dedicated to children with cancer, where he helped raise money with fellow motorcycle riders, the Sunshine Riders. He was an active member of Kiwanis, and one time President, and for many years could be seen hamming it up in The Kiwanis Kapers. He could always be found working the fried dough stand at The Daffodil Festival or handing out strawberry shortcakes as chair of the Strawberry Shortcake Fundraiser. Anyone who knew Pierre found him to be outgoing and gregarious, the life of the party. He loved spending time with family and friends and never said no to a game of cards, Cribbage, or sharing a nice meal. He was passionate about music and skiing and spent many years as a ski ranger at Mt. Southington.

Pierre was predeceased by his mother, Rose Roy Boutin; father, Jean Blanchet; stepfather, Emil Boutin; brother, Dennis Blanchet; and sister, Louise Blanchet. He is survived by his wife, Judi; son, Jamie Cyr, his wife Adele, and grandchildren, Christian, Serenity, and Noah; daughter, Kerri Blanchet and grandchildren John, Claire, and Isaac; brother, Michael Blanchet, his wife Linda and nephews, Dan and Jeff Blanchet, as well as their spouses and children, numerous friends, nieces and nephews, and his wife's family who will miss him dearly as he was so loved by all who knew him.

Friends and Family are welcome to join Pierre's family on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Meriden Memorial (STEMPIEN) Funeral Home 450 Broad St, Meriden. The family requests that all flowers and notes be sent to Meriden Memorial Funeral Home.  All are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Holy Angels Church (Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish) 585 Main St, S.
