Obituary

Peter A. Fontanella, 73, passed away unexpectedly on September 14, 2026, in Meriden, Connecticut. He was born on September 16, 1952, in Meriden. He was predeceased by is father Anthoney S. Fontanella, mother Evelyn A. Fontanella, Brother Andrew L. Park and brother-in-law Curtis Zimmer, and is survived by his three brothers Bruce A. Fontanella (Cherie Snyder), Gary W. A. Fontanella (Pam) and Wayne V. Fontanella; two sisters Paula A. Hancock (Richard) and Susan L. Zimmer; a special niece Holly Hancock (Brian); nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; and friends from all over the world.

At 18 years old, Peter announced to his parents, family and local friends that his life ambition was initially to travel throughout the USA, followed by journeys to the rest of the world. He pursued his ambition right up to his death, meeting, living and making friends with the citizens of North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

In addition to reaching his goal as a world traveler, he became a skilled carpenter of which he was extremely proud. He used his carpenter skills to earn a living when he was not traveling and to barter for room and board when he was making his way across the globe.

Peter was a good man who lived his dream of being a world traveler and a skilled carpenter. People loved him throughout the world, be he had a special place in his heart for his parents, siblings, extended family and longtime hometown friends; he never forgot where he came from and the lessons he learned growing up in Meriden.

As his family and friends may guess, Peter requested no funeral, wake, viewing, celebration of Life gathering, donations in his remembrance or letters of condolence. He did request to be cremated and to have his family scatter his ashes on his parents’ graves. The family is following all his requests but one. If you decide to write a letter of condolence, please include how you met Peter or a “Peter” story, and then email it to Bruce A. Fontanella - baf@fontanellalaw.com
