Nellie Wawrzaszek, 86, beloved sister and aunt died on Wednesday May 25, 2016 at Masonicare Hospice in Wallingford.
Born on May 31, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Ignatius and Mary (Chamiga) Wawrzaszek. A lifelong resident of Meriden, Nellie attended local schools and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. She was employed at the James Kay Co., Cuno Corp., Anderson-Little
and the Sales Department of the Napier Company Store from where she retired after many years of service. An accomplished artist, Nellie was a member of the Meriden Arts & Crafts Association and Gallery 53. Over many years, Nellie exhibited her paintings locally and donated her artwork to raise money for scholarship programs in the city. She also enjoyed tag sales, bingo and Meriden history.
Ms. Wawrzaszek is survived by her nephew Kenneth A. Lonczak and his wife Ann of Meriden; three great nephews: Gregory Lonczak and his wife Allison, Timothy Lonczak, Stephen Lonczak and several godchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Regina M. Lonczak and brother Stanley A. Wawrzaszek.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday May 28, 2016 at 9:15 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Stanislaus Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday May 27, 20106 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Stempien Funeral Home. To send an online expression of sympathy please visit
