Obituary

Mary Kogut, the widow of Louis Kogut, died on April 2, 2015 at her home in Plantsville. Mary was born in Meriden on September 14, 1925 to Walter and Antonia Rybak. She was the youngest sister of Frank, Raymond, Edward, Philip, Julie (Owsianik) and Theresa Rybak. Mary is survived by her children Jim and Geri Kogut, Dan and Joyce Kogut, Susan and Mark Kosnoff, Karen and Mike Malecha and Chris and Janice Kogut. Mary's 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren are the treasures of her long life. Mary was a graduate of St. Stanislaus Elementary School. She cut short any further education to make ball bearings during World War II. After the war she married Louie, raised her children and went on to become an extraordinary cook, baker, gardener, seamstress and family historian. As the fog of Alzheimer's disease descended on her incredible mind, Mary worked feverishly to complete an afghan for each of her grandchildren. As the fog thickened, Mary was forced to leave behind her beloved Meriden. For the past 3 years she lived in Plantsville under the watchful eye and loving care of Dan and Joyce and two very special grandchildren -Ashley and Rich Kogut. The Funeral Mass and Celebration of Mary's life will be held on Friday, May 1at 10 am at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
