Maria Luisa Luciano, 88, beloved wife of Porfirio Luciano died on Wednesday April 3, 2013 at Miller Memorial Community. Born on August 25, 1924 in Moca Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Agustin and Petra (Rivera) Gomez. Maria was a longtime resident of Meriden and a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church. Her greatest joy was caring for her grandchildren. She was known as the neighborhood grandmother because she babysat for all the children in the neighborhood, from church and if she wasn't available Maria would find a sitter for the family in need. She enjoyed sewing. Maria made beautiful dresses for her daughters. She was also known for her cooking and baking, especially desserts. Her favorites were bread pudding and flan. Maria even made candy from orange skins and coconut candy. Besides her loving husband Porfirio, Maria is survived by her son Daniel Luciano and his wife Sun Lee of TX; two daughters: Saida Luciano-Ross and her husband Johnny of Waterbury, Sandra Smith of East Hartford; four brothers: Anibal Gomez of Meriden, Miguel Angel and his wife Milagro of NY, Jorge Luis and his wife Lula of NY, Julio Cesar of FL; a sister Carmen Rodino and her husband Eladio of TX; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
