Obituary

Marcel J. Kulinski, 88, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018. He was born in Great Barrington, MA on June 16, 1929, was the son of the late Marceli and Anna (Kulesza) Kulinski, and was a resident of the towns of Torrington and most recently, Meriden where he spent most of his life.


Marcel served the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Alaska and New Jersey. After his service he returned home to Torrington and became active with the Polish Legion of American Veterans (PLAV) which provided the opportunity for him to meet his true love, Henrietta at a state event. They married in 1959 at St. Stanislaus Church in Meriden where they became active in the June fest, Holy Name Society Bingo and Senior Sunshine club. Their membership and leadership within the PLAV introduced them to many friends who became like family. As a member of the PLAV, Marcel held the positions of Commander, Sr. Vice Commander, State Treasurer and Sgt. at Arms.

He was an employee of International Silver Company Factory E as a caster and the CUNO Company in the filtration department, where he retired. When not volunteering his time to create wellness bags for the West Haven VA hospital blind unit, playing setback and cribbage with other veterans at the PLAV, or watching his beloved UCONN huskies; he could be found gardening, having McDonald's breakfast with his friends, or cheering on his grandchildren at their various sport or theater events.


He was predeceased by his wife, Henrietta (Janeczek) and his brothers, Thomas Kulinski, Victor Kulinski, Leo Kulinski and Julian Kulinski; and sisters Jadwiga Jacobs, Mary Ann Sievel, and Jennie Nadaski. Marcel is survived by his eldest son Mark Kulinski and his wife Anne, daughter Marie (Kulinski) Dara and her husband Gary, all of Meriden, and younger son Stephen Kulinski and his wife Gail of Berlin as well as two siblings: John Kulinski and Anne (Kulinski) Mikolos. Marcel was the loving "Dziadziu" to six grandchildren; Jackson Kulinski, Susan Kulinski, Christine (Dara) Reyes, John Dara, Joseph Kulinski and Emily Kulinski. He also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews and extended cousins.

His funeral will be held on Thursday May 17th at 9:15 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Stanislaus Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday May 16th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Stempien Funeral Home.
