Obituary

Kathryn Moores Smith, 80, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2020 at MidState Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of first husband, the late Edward Wade Smith, Sr. and second husband, the late John Gagner

Born on March 8, 1939 in Old Town, ME she was the daughter of the late Charles W. Moores, Sr. and Ola M. (Sharpe) Moores. After her parents divorced, she and her brother lived with their mother and her new husband, Clemont A. White in Maine, until they pulled up roots and moved to Milford, CT. Kathy attended Milford schools including Pumpkin Delight, Point Beach, Woodmont, Seabreeze and Milford High School.

She was employed as a tool & die machinist and worked for several companies including Avco-Lycoming. Kathy loved archery, horses, lilacs and the great outdoors. She was a country western singer in the style of Patsy Cline. Kathy played a fine guitar, performing at various functions throughout the state for many years. She also studied at the Elm City Beauty Academy and became a hairdresser. Kathy loved her family dearly. She also found great comfort spending time with her church family, taking trips to Sight and Sound in Pennsylvania, attending prayer breakfasts where she shared a common bond of laughter and joy by being with those she delighted with her humor.

Kathy possessed a quirky "Maine Stubbornness" and stood her ground. Yet she was also able to open up like a summer day and laugh like a school girl. Kathy was quick to praise and quick to question. She was anything but dull. Time had taken its toll on her and she wanted peace. Kathy is with her God. A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, she will be greatly missed.

Kathryn is survived by her three children: Edward Wade Smith, Jr. and his wife Michelle, Rebecca Lee Irish and her wife Lori Kiss, Wendee Elaine Brisart and her husband Edward; six grandchildren: Tara, Jimmy and his wife Candace, Jason, Cory, Shawn and his wife Alyssa, Josh and his wife Brooke; stepson Keith and his wife Kathy; seven great grandchildren: Taylan, Tanner, Lila, Decius, Asia, Josiah, Noah; her sister Peggy Ruddy and her husband William; brother, Charles Moores; four nieces: Robyn, Michela, Deborah, Lisa and many great nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her first husband Edward and second husband John, Kathy was predeceased by her infant daughter, Cindee who died at birth; sister-in-law, Nanette; a niece, Christine Moores and her stepfather Clemont A. White.
