Julia Cannata, 100, beloved wife of the late Alfio Samuel Cannata passed away peacefully on Thursday April 23, 2015 at Westfield Care & Rehab. Born on February 12, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Josephine (Marcantonio) Ariale. Julia was a lifelong resident of Meriden. She attended local schools and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Julia was employed as an inspector and played for the baseball team at International Silver from where she retired. Upon her retirement she worked as a manager at Kings Department Store. Julia was a member of the Meriden Council of Catholic Women, the Mount Carmel Society, the PLAV Post 189 Ladies Auxiliary, the 169 B-CO-MED Veteran's Association and the Stroke Club where she served as secretary and treasurer. She enjoyed traveling, especially to California, visits to the beach and bus trips. Julia also loved to knit with her family knitting group. Julia's daughter, Sandra will fondly remember her mother as a person who always extended a helping hand to anyone in need; she was an angel that left this earth and went right to heaven; that was my Mom. Julia made people smile right until the very end. Mrs. Cannata is survived by her loving daughter Sandra L. Gaetano. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday April 28, 2015 at 9:15 a.m. from the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
