Obituary

Joseph John Wysocki, 92, devoted husband of the late Florence Irene (Talalaj) Wysocki for 63 years, died Sunday March 22, 2015 at MidState Medical Center. Joseph was born October 11, 1922 in Meriden, son of the late Frank and Constance (Wozniak) Wysocki. He graduated from Meriden High School in 1940 and immediately began working as a machinist at The International Silver Company where he eventually worked at the factory E location on Broad St., until it ceased operations in 1981. Joseph then worked at the Meriden Rolling Mill until his retirement from full time work in 1984. He continued to work part time at many area machine shops until his final retirement in 1995. Joseph also had a career in the Navy retiring in 1970 after completing 27 years of military service. He enrolled at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) in Great Neck, NY in 1943 and was involved in many missions at sea primarily in the Mediterranean and the Pacific. Joseph graduated from Kings Point Academy in December 1946 and in 1947 signed on to aid in the relief mission to assist in the recovery of Europe after WWII's end. In 1948 he returned to work at the International Silver Company. Joseph continued to serve in the Naval Reserve and was stationed at Navy bases in Cromwell, CT and East Haven, CT. Before his retirement from the Naval Reserve in 1970, Joseph had attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. In his later years, Joseph joined the Meriden Antique Veterans Post 1 and considered it a great privilege to participate in activities such as assisting in Military Honors at funerals, marching in parades or talking about his military career during presentations at schools. Joseph was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church and took pleasure in attending church services, as well as any church sponsored activities such as parish dances and festivals. Joseph had a great expertise in caring for and growing shrubs. He would take small clippings from shrubs, as well as seedlings, plant them in boxes after preparing them to begin root formation and eventually observe the shrubs grow and shape them uniquely. There are countless numbers of shrubs transplanted by Joseph in people's yards throughout the Meriden area, which Joseph began working with as clippings from existing shrubs and seedlings. During the past two years, Joseph began many new friendships while living at the Miller Memorial Community in Meriden. The residents at Miller made up Joseph's new family. He was a people person who would say "Hi Buddy" to everyone he met. Joseph truly enjoyed living at Miller. He enjoyed the many recreational activities taking place there especially bingo and card games. His family would like to thank the devoted staff at the Miller Memorial Community for the excellent care given to their father Joseph. He is survived by his daughter Christine Riccio and her husband, William of Southington, and his son Gregory Wysocki of Meriden; a sister-in-law Stephanie Wysocki of Meriden, and a brother-in-law Edward Dutkiewicz of Berlin and many nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his sisters: Eleanor Myjack, Josephine Dutkiewicz and his brothers: Wallace Wysocki, Stephen Wysocki, John Wysocki, Peter Wysocki, Walter Wysocki, Stanley Wysocki and Chester Wysocki His funeral will be held on Monday March 30th at 9:30 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Stanislaus Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
