Obituary

Rev. Joseph Stanley Pulaski, M.M., 94, beloved Servant of God, died peacefully on Friday November 8, 2013 at St. Teresa's Home (Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers) in Ossining, NY. Born on October 11, 1919 in Meriden, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Banaszewski) Pulaski. Fr. Pulaski attended St. Stanislaus School and was a graduate of Meriden High, Class of 1938. After High School he studied for the priesthood at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield. In 1940 he completed his studies at Maryknoll Junior Seminary in Clark's Summit, PA and at Maryknoll Seminary in Ossining, NY. Fr. Pulaski was ordained on June 15, 1947 and recently celebrated his 65th anniversary in the priesthood. His first mission assignment was to Kongmoon, China where he labored for four years. After the Communists took over the Chinese government in 1951, he was expelled and returned to the United States. For a short time Father Pulaski worked at Holy Spirit Church in Perth Amboy, NJ before being assigned to Development work in St. Louis, MO. In 1953 he was assigned to the Japan Region where he served for 21 years in various parish assignments and as Chaplain of Kusatsu Hospital. In March of 1974 Fr. Pulaski's next assignment took him to the Maryknoll Hawaii Region where he worked until his retirement in 1985. In December of 1985 Fr. Pulaski was assigned to the Special Society Unit and returned to Meriden to care for his sister who was terminally ill. He was assigned to the Retirement Community in February 2001, but continued to assist several Meriden churches before relocating to Maryknoll, NY. His life was totally dedicated to serving others which he did unselfishly and joyously with untireless, loving compassion. His outgoing, exuberant nature was infective to those who were in his presence. He was an inspiration to all those who knew strengthening their devotion and leading many others to service in the Catholic Church. His touched the lives of his family by his living examples of strong devotion and faith in God. His role model was Pope John Paul II. Fr. Pulaski is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Vera Pulaski, a Catholic nun, Zigmund Pulaski, Charles Pulaski, Helen Gurecki, Attorney Andrew Pulaski, Jack Pulaski and Mary Osowecki all of Meriden, CT., Dr. John Pulaski of Newington, CT and Theresa Saunders of Maryland.
