Joseph R. Kumkowski, 95, died on Sunday (Father's Day) June 19, 2016 at the Hartford Hospital with his family by his side. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Zolnik) Kumkowski, his beloved wife of 67 years.

Born February 14. 1921 on St. Valentine's Day in Cromwell, he was the son of the late Stanley and Louise Moskey Kumkowski. He was employed by the International Silver Company, the City of Meriden and the Veterans Memorial Hospital of Meriden, always as HVAC specialist. After retirement he continued to work as a school bus driver for Walls Transportation in Wallingford. Joseph enjoyed fishing the Connecticut River, swimming in it as a boy, Sunday drives with his family, and caring for his many pets. He was an accomplished amateur handyman, a member of the St. Casimir Club and a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church.

Besides his wife Mary Ann, Joseph is survived by three daughters: Karen Anderson (Dennis recently deceased) of Bristol, Pam Tanguay (Paul) of Seminole, FL, and Mary Ann Tanguay              (Russell) of Cromwell, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his 4 brothers and 8 sisters.

His funeral will be held on Friday June 24th at 9:15 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad Street. Meriden when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Stanislaus Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Middletown. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday evening June 23rd from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Stempien Funeral Home.
