Obituary

Immacolata Albanese, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday September 27, 2015 surrounded by her adoring family at the Curtis Home. She was the beloved wife of Domenico Albanese, her husband of 69 years. Immacolata was born on May 12, 1927 in Grotteria-Reggio Calabria Italy, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Rosa (Papandrea) Carabetta. She and her husband came to America in 1956. They had a dream of giving their family an amazing life which they accomplished together. Immacolata was a devoted Catholic and a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She loved to cook and bake and always made incredible creations without ever using a measuring spoon or cup. She also loved gardening. Her flower gardens were breath-taking and friends and family were always in awe of their beauty. The greatest source of her joy came from spending time with her family, who she was immensely proud of. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, our beloved Immacolata will be greatly missed by all. Besides her husband, Mrs. Albanese is survived by her son Joseph Albanese of Meriden; four daughters: Rosa Spencer, Theresa Horton and her husband Donald F. III, Mary Cox and her husband Raymond, Angela Wodarski and her husband Steven, all of Meriden; her brother Bruno Carabetta; her sister Mary Grenier; four grandchildren: Donald F. Horton, IV and his wife Karen, Kristina Horton; Ryan and Alyssa Wodarski; her great grandson Donald F. Horton V and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son Saverio Albanese. Her funeral will be held on Thursday October 1, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday morning October 1st from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the Stempien Funeral Home.
