Obituary

Helen Joan Hushak passed away on 9 October 2019.  She was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Chester Mark Hushak in 1986.

Helen is survived by her son, Chris and his wife Deanna, of Sterling, VA.  She lived in Connecticut most of her life, but spent her last 20 years in Virginia.  Helen was a devout Catholic, professing her strong faith both in her support of the church and also through her lifestyle.  She helped teach her faith to special needs children at her church in Enfield, Connecticut.  Helen also actively participated in church functions in both Leesburg and Sterling, Virginia.

Her favorite hobbies included sewing and gardening.  She also loved to travel, including making several trips to Europe to meet relatives as well as to tour Catholic shrines.  During World War II, she worked at General Motors as a ball bearing inspector.  Her excellent eyesight was noted by her boss as well as the U.S. Government inspectors.  Helen and a select team of women were called aside to work on a special project which eventually helped hasten the end of the war.

While living at an over-55 facility in Leesburg, she participated in their party room movie nights and also provided assistance to other residents needing a little extra help.  Helen also drove several other residents who were unable to drive to church.  She volunteered many hours at the local hospital, greeting people coming in as well as making new mother care packages.

Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Thursday October 17 th at 10:00 a.m. at the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. To send an online expression of sympathy please visit www.stempienfuneralhome.com
