Genevieve "Jean" I. Gawel, 75, beloved wife of the late John A. Gawel died on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at the Miller Memorial Community. Born on March 22, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Ludwik and Frances (Muski) Orzech. Jean was a lifelong resident of Meriden; she graduated from local schools and worked for Nanfito's Dry Cleaning. Jean was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. She enjoyed playing scratch tickets and caring for her cats. Mrs. Gawel is survived by her brother, Joseph Orzech, of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Ed Devlan; two brothers, Stanley and Benjamin Orzech; and four sisters, Mary Smith, Theresa Lemke, Frances Pallatto and Veronica Muszynski.
