Obituary

Fredrick V. Hurst, 91, passed away on September 29, 2012 after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Meriden, he resided on High Hill Rd. Mr. Hurst was educated at St. Stanislaus School and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus his entire life. He served honorably in World War II with the 8th Air Force Heavy Bombardment in Consolidated B-24's in the European Theater of Operations. After the war he worked for Wilcox Bros. Silversmiths which later became International Silver Co. and also Wallace Silversmith Co. as a Sterling Silver Hollowware Ornamental Chaser and later as an Ornamental Die Cutter until his retirement. Mr. Hurst was a member of the Antique Veterans Post #1, the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He was an active sportsman in his youth who liked to hunt and camp. He was also a former Boy Scout Leader. He was predeceased by his wife Martha (Malecha) Hurst and his youngest son John Hurst. He is survived by two sisters Helen Zaremba and Louise Albrycht of East Haddam, his daughter Diane Standish and her husband Scott with whom he resided; sons: James Hurst and his wife Leah of Enfield, William Hurst and his wife Joan of Colebrook, CT and Daniel Hurst of Meriden. Mr. Hurst reveled in his grandchildren Jillian and Alexandra Standish, Christine and Steven Hurst, William Hurst, Lisa Clark, Erika Hurst and his great grandchildren: Kenneth J. Lyas and Juliana Ruggiero who he referred to as his "sunshine" and several nieces and nephews.
