Frances "Fran" Mary Bedard, 79, wife of the late Francis Bedard died peacefully on Sunday morning December 15, 2013 at her home. Born on December 8, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Howell) Monaghan. Fran was a graduate of St. Chretienne Academy in Salem, MA. A Meriden resident since 1960, she was employed by the Meriden Board of Education in food service management, where she retired in 1998 after 30 years of service. During her tenure as Cafeteria Manager for 19 years at Maloney High School, the cafeteria was chosen "Cafeteria of the Year" in 1986. Fran was founder of the Breakfast with Santa program at Maloney High School for which she was presented by the Mayor, the honor of naming December 17, 2005 as "Fran Bedard Day" in the city of Meriden. She was grateful for this honor but always said the kids were the real reward. Fran was also an active Realtor with Prudential CT Realty from 1984 until 2005, having achieved the Honor Society several of those years. For the last few years, she served as Vice President of Sterling Village Association where she resided. As an only child, Fran counted her many friends as family. She is survived by John Welsh who was like a son to her, his wife Gina and their children. She felt especially blessed to have in her life her two wonderful granddaughters Kaitlyn and Meghan Welsh, their mother Wendy and her beloved companions Paddy (her dog) and Tom (her cat).
