Florence Sosnowski, 85, beloved wife of the late Michael Sosnowski passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 15, 2015 at the CT Baptist Home. Born on November 8, 1929 in the Bronx, NY she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Damalga) Gurzenda. Florence grew up in the Bronx where she attended local schools and worked for the Telephone Company and in the retail business. She was a longtime resident of Meriden and parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church where she was a dedicated volunteer. Florence liked to garden, sew, cook and golf. She was an avid reader and bowler. Florence enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. A loving mother, grandmother and sister, she will be greatly missed. Florence is survived by her children: Michael, Kathleen, David, Susan, Daniel and Matthew; a brother Joseph Gurzenda; her sister Marsha Russo; a sister-in-law Josephine Doron; six grandchildren: Jennifer and Amanda Woods, Benjamin and Leah Sosnowski, Dutch and Nixon Sosnowski and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Saturday September 19th at 9:15 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Stanislaus Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday September 18th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Stempien Funeral Home.
