Florence
Rackley
Nov 4, 1933 — Sep 1, 2023
Meriden
Florence Rackley, 89 was born on November 4, 1933 in New York City. She grew up in Jamaica, Queens under the loving parentage of Nettie and Alfred Lucas. Florence attended Shimer Junior High School and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, both in Jamaica. She was an active and involved member of Brooks Memorial Methodist Church all of her adult life where she taught children's Sunday School. Through her warm and affectionate spirit, she taught her students about Jesus Christ, thus influencing many young lives.
Florence's caring nature led her to a career serving others at Creedmore State Hospital in Long Island NY, for over 20 years. In 1954, she married the love of her life, Isaac Rackley, a Korean War Veteran. God blessed this union with a son, Donald Isaac Rackley. Along with being a loving and doting mother, Florence helped raise the children her mother cared for as well as lending a helping hand with the children in her neighborhood. Many still remember the trips she took them on, parties she hosted, help she rendered as well as her great sense of humor. Florence had a heart of gold and was loved by all who came to know her.
In her passing, Florence leaves to mourn: her son Donald (Karen) Rackley of Somerset, New Jersey, her six grandchildren Melanie of Raleigh, NC, Greg of Okinawa, Japan, Cory of Queens, New York, and Damoni, Sydkne and Lauryn of Somerset, New Jersey; two great grandchildren Misa and Camden; her god sister Vera Penn and a host of cousins and close friends.
