Obituary

Filomena Fiore, 90, beloved wife of the late Salvatore J. Fiore died on Monday November 9, 2015 at her home. Born on June 7, 1925 in Sorrento, Italy she was the daughter of the late Francis and Assunta Lucia (Coppola) Massa. Filomena came to America from Italy at age 23. After only a few years she became a US Citizen. Filomena was a longtime resident of Meriden and parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She had a strong faith in God. After her husband passed away Filomena proved to be resilient and kept active. She became a member of the Meriden Senior Center where she enjoyed participating in exercise classes and visiting with friends. Filomena was a great cook especially Italian dishes. She enjoyed the simple things in life: warm summer days, working in her vegetable and flower gardens and animal crackers. Filomena was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren, she loved spending time with all of them. She will be greatly missed. Mrs. Fiore is survived by her children: Francis Fiore and his wife Debbie of Meriden, Aurelia Maxwell and her husband Gary of Manchester; five grandchildren: Christopher Fiore, Anthony Fiore, Michael Fiore, David Maxwell and his wife Hillary, Kathleen Orfitelli and her husband Jim; two great grandchildren: Vivian Hunt, Bradley Maxwell; nieces: Georgine and Ethel; her niece and nephews from Italy Assunta, Luigi and Gerardo and her special cousin John Riccio. She was predeceased by two brothers: Anthony and Luigi Massa. Her funeral will be held on Friday November 13th at 9:15 a.m. from the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
