Elizabeth A. McGrath, 73, beloved sister, aunt and friend, died on Tuesday May 5, 2015 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born on November 7, 1941 in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Andrew R. and Helen (Partyka) Budnick. Betty was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in New Britain and Laurel College in Meriden. She was a longtime resident of Meriden and parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. Betty was employed as an executive secretary for Northeast Utilities from where she retired after 42 years of service. She enjoyed trips to the beach, boating, travelling and taking cruises with her family to Aruba and Walt Disney World. Betty loved music especially Polka's with Jimmy Sturr and music played by her nephew Matthew Simmons and his band. She was their groupie. To everyone who was touched by Betty's love, know that she loved being with all of you until the very end. She is survived by her sister MaryAnn Simmons and her husband Edward (Betty's Eddie) of Meriden; her cherished niece and nephew: goddaughter Roxanne Simmons of Meriden and Matthew Simmons and his wife Elizabeth of Seattle and numerous loving friends. Betty's family would like to thank Nurse Mary and Dr. David Taraskevich and the Franciscan Life Center for the excellent and compassionate care given to her. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday morning May 9th from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and attend her funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden.
