Dorothy Filipek Piatek, 92, loving wife and mother, died on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 in Plantsville, CT.

Born on November 13, 1924 in Meriden, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Latka) Filipek.  Dorothy attended St. Stanislaus School and Meriden High School, where she was a member of the first women's cheer leading squad. She also won the women's singles title in the city-sponsored tennis tournament.  However, Dorothy's passion was the ballet. She made weekly rail trips to Hartford to study with Anatole Bourman. Dorothy remained a balletomane throughout her life.

Dorothy married Edward P. Piatek on August 16, 1947 at St. Stanislaus church.  They lived in Storrs and then Hartford where Dorothy studied at the Ann Randall School of Drama and was a member of the Aetna Players. While working at Aetna, she played the female lead in Death Takes a Holiday .  Dorothy and Edward were active members at the Polish National Home in Hartford.  They returned to Meriden in 1957.  Dorothy worked in the Trust department at Home National Bank, as a representative for Charles of the Ritz Cosmetics at G. Fox & Co., and at International Silver, managing special accounts such as the White House, Tiffany's and Marshall-Field. She returned to the Aetna from where she retired.

Dorothy always said that she would never be bored because of her many and varied interests—ballet, opera, reading, travel and UConn Women's basketball.  She was an exceptional cook, loved decorating, especially at Christmas, and had great personal style.  Dorothy especially enjoyed spending time with her family, she was very close with her sisters and their families.

She is survived by her brother Philip Filipek of Port Clinton, OH; her children, Julianne Piatek of Chicago and Andrew Piatek of Meriden, her sisters-in-law Jeanne Filipek and Helen Filipek and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Edward: three brothers: Thaddeus, Winton and Richard Filipek and four sisters: Julianne Macchi, Eleanor Ritter, Florence Passerini, and Mirriom Mende.
