Dorothy (Dot) Bender, formerly of Wethersfield, CT passed quietly to heaven on
April 4, 2018 at the age of 90 in the care of Village at Kensington Place.
Dorothy was born in Meriden, on December 12, 1927 to George and Anna (Kroll) Bender. She was one of four siblings: George, Edward, and Robert. Dot attended local schools and graduated from Meriden High School in 1945. She worked for 40 years at Conning and Co. in Hartford CT as the first female stock broker, quite the accomplishment in 1957.
Dot loved travelling, skiing, sailing and tennis. Germany, Switzerland, England and Iceland were some of her favorite destinations. She belonged to Mountain Laurel and Meriden Ski Clubs, skiing Aspen, Lake Tahoe and Squaw Valley in addition to the slopes of New England. In the summer she might be found on a schooner out of Camden, Maine or Newport, RI boating with friends or on the tennis courts. After retiring she became an enthusiastic volunteer at both the Wethersfield Historical Society and Sacred Heart Church of Wethersfield for the next 20 years. Dot will be remembered for her quick wit and a dry sense of humor.
Ms. Bender is survived by her brother and caregiver, Robert Bender, sister-in-law Eleanor Bender and nieces and nephews: Christine Webster, Mark Bender and his wife Renee Dewey, Lisa Ryder of Queechee, VT, Maggie Bender, Eric and Kathryn (Fulton) Bender and Holly (Bender) Buckley of East Lyme; fifteen great nieces and nephews: Kelly Webster, Steven Bender, Saralyn Bernabucci, Michelle Bender, Shaina Bender, Burke Ryder, Colin Ryder, Caitlin Manchester, Travis Manchester, Kara Marzal, Erich Bender, Liesel Bender, Morgan Bender, Sydney Buckley, Madden Buckley and nine great great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers: George and Edward Bender.
Her Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Saturday April 14th at Sacred Heart Church,
