Doris R. Tonkowicz, 82, beloved wife of the late Frank Tonkowicz died on Saturday January 23, 2016 at Masonicare.
Born on January 27, 1933 in Meriden she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Mary (Dempsey) Ring. A longtime resident of Meriden, Doris worked as a bookkeeper for Barker/Kings/Ames Department Store, retiring from Ames after over 20 years of service. In her younger years, she enjoyed square dancing, playing cribbage and socializing with her friends. Later in life Doris enjoyed baseball, she was a longtime Red Sox Fan turned NY Yankee fan. Most important to her was her family whom she loved and cherished. She was a devoted grandmother affectionately known as g-sizzle, who helped raise her grandchildren and was always there for them. Doris was a well-mannered, considerate and kind individual who will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Tonkowicz is survived by her two sons: Allan F. Tonkowicz of Higganum, Robert Tonkowicz of Meriden; a daughter Nancy A. Clough of Naugatuck; four grandchildren: Roger E. Clough, Jr., Nicole J. Cossette, Benjamin F. Clough, Amanda L. Clough and two great grandchildren: Mia P. Clough and Howard A. Cossette IV. She was predeceased by two sisters: Janet Magoni and Marilyn Kielb.
Her funeral will be held on Monday February 1st at 9:15 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday afternoon January 31st from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden.
