Donald Francis Clark passed away on May 27, 2022 in Falls Church, VA. He was born on August 30, 1936 in Meriden, CT, the son of the late John V. and Helen B. (Krasenics) Clark. He was a graduate of Meriden High School Class of 1954. He attended UCONN, graduating with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1958 and a Master of Science degree in 1959.
In 1961, Don started his career as a civilian employee of the U. S. Navy at the U. S. Navy Underwater Sound Laboratory in New London, CT. From there he transitioned to the Naval Security Group Command, and ultimately retired in 2019 from his position as a Physical Scientist for Navy Cyber Warfare Development Group.
During Don's almost 60 years with the U. S. Navy, he was consistently recognized for his outstanding performance. Don served as a Project Engineer for a U.S. Navy flight deck communications system, he developed and designed at-sea testing of submarine antennas intended for the Polaris fleet ballistic missile submarines, and served as Naval Security Group Director for system development. In this position, among other responsibilities, he directed the development, testing and operational deployment of the U. S. Navy's signal search systems targeting radio frequencies below three megahertz, and was instrumental in the creation of the Navy Regional Signal Search Centers in Scotland and Japan. Upon his retirement in 2019, he was awarded the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award for his many contributions.
Don is survived by a brother, John V. "Jack" Clark Jr. of Southington, and sister- in-law, Lorraine A. Clark of Berlin, CT. He also leaves his nieces, Dawn C. Tyler of Manchester, CT, Gail Clark and partner Ted Koproski of Wallingford, CT, Marcia Pilch and husband Steve of Fitzwilliam, NH, Cathleen Clark and husband Ron Yakimishan of Cromwell, CT and their children Conrad and Valerie Yakimishan, Cynthia Wiech of Colchester, CT and Nancy W. Gendreau and husband Gary of Southington, CT, his grand niece Elizabeth Gendreau and husband Todd Gwiazdowski and great grandnephews, Nicholas, Nathan and Alexander Gwiazdowski, and grand nephew Stephen Gendreau and wife Laura, all of Southington, CT. He was predeceased by his brother Robert E. Clark and sister Patricia C. Wiech.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Graveside service on Saturday May 20th at 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden CT.
