David J. Samsel, 74, died peacefully with his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Murphy) Samsel by his side, on Sunday October 4, 2015 at Masonicare. Born in Hartford on September 13, 1941, he was the son of the late Chester and Catherine (O'Bara) Samsel. David graduated from Newington High School, class of 1959. A longtime resident of Meriden, he was employed as a machinist for New Departure from where he retired. Upon his retirement he was a groundskeeper at the Farms Country Club. David played baseball and was a coach for the Babe Ruth League of South Meriden. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and especially going camping in the summer with his family to Lake Winnipesauke. David was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Mr. Samsel is survived by his daughter Cheryl Amenta of Middletown; his sister Susan Samsel Poriss and her husband David of Burlington; a daughter-in-law Leslie Gustin; two grandchildren: Sebastian Amenta, Robert Samsel, Jr.; five step grandchildren: Jillian, Victoria, Michael, Matthew, Andrew and his step grandson Gabriel. He was predeceased by his son Robert Samsel, Sr. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at Masonicare Ramage 2 Wooster 4 ACU and Hospice for the excellent care given to David.
