Cornelius J. Filipek, 97, beloved brother, uncle, great uncle, friend, and American hero, peacefully entered into eternal life, Friday, Dec 3, 2021 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

Cornelius was born in Meriden, August 26, 1924, a beloved son of the late John Filipek and Mary (Novak) Filipek and had been a lifelong Meriden resident.  Cornelius was a proud United States World War II Navy Veteran and a proud member of the Antique Veterans Honor Guard World Post No. 1. He assisted in a total of 464 funeral honors as a member, and was very proud of that.  Cornelius was employed by the International Silver Co. for 41 years until his retirement.  He attended local schools and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church (St. Faustina Parish).  Cornelius also donated a total of 12 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross during his lifetime.

He is survived by many nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; and many grandnieces; and grandnephews.  He is predeceased by his 8 sisters Lucy Bombalicki, Adeline Mount, Aurelia Zych, Clara Biron, Florence Forster, Theodora Filipek, Valerie Filipek, Gertrude Williams; and his infant brother Edward.

His family will receive relatives and friends, Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at the Meriden Memorial Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.  A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m., Wednesday, December 8 ^th at Meriden Memorial Funeral Home.  Interment with military honors will follow in the CT.
