Obituary

Bernard Corsetti, 93, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on January 27, 2017. He was the husband of Mrs. Maria DiDino Corsetti and son of the late Mr. Eleuterio and Mrs. Assunta Polselli Corsetti.

He was born March 11, 1923 on his family's ancestral country estate of Campostefano, Arce, located in the Lazio region of the Kingdom of Italy. During his youth, he was educated at the school of Isola di Liri and later attended University in Rome, where he studied the natural sciences, humanities, engineering, and languages, knowledge of which he was still able to call upon effortlessly in the later years of his life. Mr. Corsetti immensely enjoyed music, and was a highly gifted accordionist and musician. He was also an accomplished craftsman, and found great fulfillment in woodworking and metalworking.

During World War II, Mr. Corsetti served in the Royal Italian Army, and witnessed the fall of Rome in June 1944. After immigrating to the United States in 1946, Mr. Corsetti originally settled in Newton, Massachusetts and was employed for 20 years in a lead management role with the Elliott Company of Cambridge. He moved to Connecticut in 1967 and worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft for a number of years and later for Corsetti Construction, from which he retired in 1983. For the past 50 years, Mr. Corsetti was a dedicated parishioner of Saint Rose Church.

Throughout his retirement years he maintained a keen scholarly interest in the fields of history, theology, meteorology, and classical anthropology, with an especial affinity for the civilization of the Romans, from whom his family was descended. Even up until his final months, Mr. Corsetti's family was blessed to hear him perform music as well as listen to his accounts of the many fascinating events he experienced during his long, remarkable life. Mr. Corsetti was an attentive and loving husband, father, and grandfather, and his family will miss him dearly.

In addition to his devoted wife of 62 years, Mrs. Maria Corsetti, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Anthony Cundari; son and daughter-in-law, Luciano and Gail Corsetti; grandchildren, Christine (Jamie) DiSalvo, Michael Corsetti, Michelle (Matthew) Hutchins, and Matthew Corsetti; great-grandchildren, Marcus and Silas DiSalvo; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Mimi Corsetti; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Francesca and Antonio Ricci; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bernard and Irma DiDino; sister-in-law, Anita DiDuca; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and extended family both in Italy and the United States. A great-granddaughter is expected to arrive in March. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Julia and Donato Corsetti and brother-in-law, Antonio DiDuca.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Tomanelli and the staff of Westfield Care and Rehab Center for their kindness and support during Mr. Corsetti's illness.
