Obituary

Arlene Patricia (Wood) Moreschi died peacefully on Sunday September 17, 2017 at Masonic Healthcare Hospice after a brief illness. She was 89.

Born in Weymouth, MA on September 17, 1928, she was the daughter of James and Dorothy (Rice) Wood. She lived in Meriden most of her adult life with her husband Frank (Francesco) Moreschi, M.D. until his death in 1978. She never remarried, but remained in their home at 183 Northfield Rd and raised her two sons: Vincent and James until they reached maturity.

She graduated from Weymouth High School, Class of 1945 in MA. She was employed at Long Island Hospital in Boston where she met her husband, Frank in 1956. After their marriage she left work to devote her time to being a wife and mother to her two sons. She was active in the Meriden community for many years, doing volunteer work for numerous charities and civic organizations.

In her early twenties she was an avid driving enthusiast, winning trophies in amateur motorsport events such as hill climbs and gymkhanas. She was active in several sports while growing up, both in high school and after, softball and swimming being her favorites. She is best remembered for her painting, something which she took great joy in doing throughout her life – as evidenced by the many beautiful landscapes, seascapes and still life's she created in both oils and acrylics, some of which she sold, some donated, but many of which she gave to family and friends.

Arlene is survived by her three siblings: Kenneth Wood (95), Barry Wood (83) both of FL, Sheila (Wood) Gillan of MA; three sons: Vincent (58) and James (57) both of Meriden, Theodore Blackwell (68) of MA; as well as two grandchildren: Nikolas and Crystina Moreschi (twins 26) of Meriden. In addition she is survived by her extended family, which include her nephews Gregory Wood and Rodney Wood of FL, Thomas Wood of GA; her niece Cheryl Wood of FL as well as numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday September 22nd from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. and attend her funeral service at 10:00 at the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden.
