Alice (Lenihan) Carey, 94, died on Tuesday August 14, 2012 at St. Raphael Hospital. She was the wife of the late Deacon Edward J. Carey, her loving husband of 58 years. Born in Shelton, CT on August 10, 1918 she was the daughter of the late John and Helen Connolly. Alice graduated from the Hospital of St. Raphael School of Nursing in 1939 and Southern Connecticut State University in 1983. Alice did staff duty and private duty at HSR. She was certified in Coronary Care and was an instructor in the HSR Practical Nursing Education Program. Mrs. Carey was active with the parish family of St. Joan of Arc Church in Hamden, serving as a CCD instructor, lector, a parish council member and an officer in the parish Legion of Mary. Alice is survived by her two sons: Reverend David Carey of Meriden and Christopher Carey and his wife Patricia of Chesterfield, VA; her two daughters: Joan Beckers and her husband David of Manchester, Maureen Hemingway of Hamden; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; her nephews: Donald Rich of Derby and Allan Rich of Southbury and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers: John and James W. Lenihan and a sister Helen Rich.
